Role: Project Director / Duration: July 2017 – September 2017 / Organization: The Cornell Daily Sun
Starting college, we are anxious, hopeful, curious. Curious about campus life and what we’ll learn, but perhaps most of all, our peers. At a glance, what are incoming Cornell students like?
How Well Do You Know Your Classmates? is a data-driven article about the incoming freshmen at Cornell, published by The Cornell Daily Sun. Our goal was to help people discover more about matriculating students by debunking or confirming freshmen stereotypes, and sharing insights on general demographics of each entering class. Each data visualization is accompanied with an in-depth analysis.
As project director, I teamed up with Cornell Data Science to co-produce this project. I also recruited team members (A frontend developer, a backend developer, a UX Designer, and a news writer) and oversaw technical and creative production.
The project reached over 16,000 people on social media and had over 4000 engagements. Just as our audience bonded over our story, we also bonded over gaining new perspectives from each other as a result of working as a multidisciplinary team.
